Fit Tips

Between Sizes?

Always choose the bigger size. Babies and toddlers grow quickly, and a little extra room ensures comfort and longer wear.

Size Up

Height & Weight

Use both height and weight as your guide. If your child is tall for their age, prioritize height measurements.

Primary Guide

Measure Feet Often

Children’s feet grow fast. Measure every 2–3 months and check that there is about a thumb’s width of space at the toe.

Shoe Fit

How to Measure

Height

Have your child stand straight against a wall (or lie down for babies). Measure from the top of the head to the heels.

Weight

Weigh your child on a scale without shoes or heavy clothing. Use the weight chart as a secondary guide alongside height.

Waist

Measure around the natural waistline without pulling the tape tight. Keep the tape level and parallel to the floor.

Foot Length

Stand on paper with heel against a wall. Mark the longest toe and measure from the wall to the mark. Use the longer foot.

Fit Note: Every child grows at their own pace. Use height and weight as your primary guide. If your child is between two sizes, Carter’s recommends choosing the bigger size [citation:5][citation:12].

Measurements are a guide and may vary slightly by garment. Always check the product page for any specific fit notes or recommendations.

For footwear, measure feet regularly—every 2–3 months for babies and toddlers. Ensure there is approximately a thumb’s width of space between the longest toe and the end of the shoe.
